Sales of Jigsaw Puzzles to Help Children in Crisis
December 17, 2020
Anyone who likes to work on jigsaw puzzles can now put those talents toward a worthy cause. REACH-A-Child™, the Madison-based organization that provides children's books to first responders, is offering a unique jigsaw puzzle in its latest fundraising effort.
This fundraiser celebrates (and supports) Wisconsin's heroes while providing comfort to children in crisis. The puzzle depicts a firefighter reading to two young children. Firefighters, fire vehicles and other individuals round out the scene. The firefighters and equipment are from the Middleton Fire District.
The 300-piece puzzle, suitable for ages 5 and up, offers a valuable learning experience while providing a fun activity the whole family can enjoy.
All proceeds from puzzle sales benefit REACH-A-Child. With an initial production of 2,000 puzzles, REACH-A-Child expects to raise $30,000.
"Whether an automobile accident, fire or other incident, the event can have a traumatic effect on a young person," said Executive Director Curt Fuszard. "As simple as it sounds, a first responder reading to that child plays a big part in helping the person through that crisis."
REACH-A-Child provides REACH BAGs to more than 240 emergency agencies across Wisconsin, including the Madison Police Department, Middleton Fire District, and Dane County Sheriff's Department. Each bag contains an assortment of new children's books and drawstring backpacks. Each child gets to keep a book and drawstring backpack.
Letterhead Press, LLC, and The Marek Group, both from the Milwaukee area, teamed up to produce the puzzles.
"I am so grateful for their contributions," Fuszard added. "This important fundraiser would not have been possible without their involvement."
The jigsaw puzzles are $15.00 each. They available for sale at http://www.reachachild.org, along with Metcalfe's Market in Madison and Wauwatosa.
Children aren't the only ones who benefit from REACH-A-Child's efforts.
"First responders consistently report that the act of giving the child a book immediately calms them and helps them to cope with the situation around them," Fuszard said.
