Like everything else in 2020, Adventsfenster may look a little different this year. In addition to several businesses participating there are also five private residences on the list, and some openings will be virtual only.

The following guidelines have been put into place - please read before attending an opening: Properly worn masks are required. If you're unable to wear a mask, organizers are asking that you refrain from attending the opening event and view the window on your own. Maintain social distancing from anyone not living in the same household as you. If you're not feeling well, or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID, stay home and enjoy Adventsfenster openings on Facebook. If the guidelines aren't respected, the openings will shift to an all online event.

Adventsfenster is a new tradition in New Glarus, organized by Jackie Judd. Judd grew up in Switzerland and attended many window openings as a child. Adventsfenster windows are common in the smaller towns and villages of Switzerland and are life-size Advent calendars. Each day in December, from the 1st to the 24th, a window will be revealed. Until their "opening day", the window is concealed. Each window opening is held at 5:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted. This year, five private residences and some new participating businesses have joined the line-up. The first Adventsfenster window reveal for 2020 will take place at Faun Phillipson's residence at 612 2nd Street on Tuesday, December 1st. On December 2nd, Tofflers, 200 5th Avenue, will reveal their window. The New Glarus Bakery, 534 1st Street, will reveal their window on December 3rd. On December 4th, the Chalet Landhaus Inn, 801 Highway 69, will reveal their window. The New Glarus Chamber of Commerce, 418 Railroad Street, will hold their window reveal at 6:30 p.m., on December 5th. On December 6th, the Swiss Center of North America, 507 Durst Road, will hold their opening. The Maple Leaf Cheese and Chocolate Haus opening on December 7th is a virtual event only. On December 8th, the opening will be at the Bigler residence, 400 5th Avenue. The December 9th reveal at Helvetia Systems is a virtual only event.
