Monticello Public Library Board Statement Regarding Library Services

September 17, 2020

The Monticello Public Library stands strong with our communities during this time of need. The Library Board understands the hard decisions all of us are facing each day and are taking active steps of their own to evaluate library services throughout the pandemic. Each monthly meeting the Library Board reviews their Condition-Based Timeline for adjusting library services.

This timeline includes five conditions to help guide the Library Board in their decisions:

A sustained reduction in new COVID-19 cases within the community for at least 14 days.

The local healthcare system has the capacity to withstand a moderate outbreak.

Community members have access to efficient testing and public health officials are able to trace COVID-19 contacts.

The library has access to the necessary materials to maintain high disinfectant cleaning standards. The library has access to enough staffing to run all of its core operations.

These conditions directly impact the implementation of the Phased Reopening Guidelines. These guidelines provide steps for restoring library services from programming to in-person browsing. Both of these documents can be found at http://www.monticellopubliclibrary.org.

Currently, the Library is operating at Phase 1 of their Phased Reopening Guidelines. The Library is open through their Express Entryway and Curbside Services Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A computer and printer station are available by appointment. Walk-in appointments are allowed if the station is sanitized. The book return on the east side of the building is open all hours. The Library quarantines all returns for four days before wiping down covers with a CDC-approved solution. Programs continue through outdoor movies and grab-n-go activity bags.

The Monticello Public Library Board values engagement from the community. Monthly meetings occur on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m., at the Library. Time is set aside for public comment at the beginning of each meeting. Statements and correspondences are read before the Library Board at that time. Please reach out to the Library Director for further information at mntpublib.director@gmail.com or (608) 938-4011.
