Minnesota State University Mankato Awards Degrees
Minnesota State University Mankato awarded 2,367 degrees to 2,294 students at the end of the spring 2020 semester, with this spring’s graduates celebrated through a special website that launched Saturday, May 9, the day on which the University’s three traditional graduation ceremonies were scheduled but cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each graduate also received personalized URL video messages by email on May 9, and “commencement-in-a-box” packages were shipped to each graduate the week before graduation. Students from our area receiving degrees include: Brandon Bailey, Belleville, BS, Management; Brooke Larson, Belleville, BS, Marketing; and Jacqueline Burgess, New Glarus, BS, Dental Hygiene, Summa Cum Laude.
New Glarus’s Zimmerman Named 2019-20 UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete
Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and graduate of New Glarus High School and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s track and field team, is one of 67 Warhawks to be recognized as 2019-20 Chancellor’s Scholar-Athletes by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Chancellor Dwight C. Watson. Zimmerman is majoring in Accounting at UW-Whitewater.
To be recognized as Scholar-Athletes, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or above through the end of the 2019 fall semester. Honorees must have participated in a varsity sport for two years, must be of senior academic status and must have accumulated at least 90 degree credits.
The 67 student-athletes recognized in 2019-20 are the most in the history of the Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete program.
