Town of New Glarus Seeks Applicants For Town Board Vacancy
May 21, 2020
The Town of New Glarus will be appointing a new member of the Town Board to fill a vacancy created by the death of Supervisor Dean Streiff. The position is open to any adult resident of the Town of New Glarus.
“The Town Board serves the public by setting the direction for future growth and development in the rural area around New Glarus,” said Town Chair Chris Narveson. “Our job as Board members is to consider the perspectives of our residents and decide how best to meet their needs. We set the budget for the Town. We work with the Village and Green County on area wide issues.”
There are no formal qualifications for the office. The position requires a significant commitment of time to read reports and information before meetings. Board members attend dozens of meetings a year, many of which involve public input. A supervisor should expect to get emails and calls from people who are concerned about issues.
“New Glarus is one of the best places in Wisconsin because we have people who care about the quality of life we have here,” Narveson said. “We’re looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm for keeping this community the special place it always has been while we move forward in an ever changing world.”
Interested individuals should send a letter to the Town either by email or postal mail. The letter should include a resume or a summary of education and work experience. Please also include a short explanation of why you are interested in being on the Board. Those who are not selected for the Board will likely find that their interest in serving the community will not go unnoticed, and they may be asked to serve on a commission or committee.
The individual appointed to the Town Board will serve the remainder of the term of the late Dean Streiff, which ends in April 2021. The position will be on the ballot in the April 2021 election.
Please send letters to clerk@townofnewglarus.com or Clerk, Town of New Glarus, PO Box 448, New Glarus, 53574. Applications must be received by Tuesday, June 9, 2020. Applications are public records.
