Capt. Walter Wenger Freed
Word was received on Sunday that Capt. Walter R. Wenger has been freed from a German prison. He had been reported missing on his 49th mission as a pilot of a plane. NOTE: On the day Walt got shot down he was promised credit for two missions which was the number needed bomber pilots needed to retire from bombing missions. He got the first mission completed and was shot down on the second mission of the day.
Wenger was based in Italy nearly a year ago, and later wrote from Stalag Luft 1, where he is confined.
