New Glarus Village Board Candidate - Chuck Phillipson
There are three seats open for New Glarus Village Trustee
March 26, 2020
Age: 73
Occupation: Retired Property Appraiser
Years lived in Village: Lived in New Glarus all my life, except 2 years in United States Army and 4 years at UW-Platteville.
Incumbent: Yes.
Have you been on the village board or held any other public office before? If so, please describe: Have served on Village Board and several committees in past years.
Why are you running for village board? I am running for the board because I care greatly for this community. My wife and I grew up here and are very thankful that our great-grandparents chose to settle here and help make New Glarus what it is today.
What issues do you find most important to the village board? List your top three priorities: I believe our number one priority as a board is to find a means to increase development in the village in order to increase revenues without raising property taxes. We are becoming more heavily indebted every year, and we desperately need increased funding to take care of aging infrastructure and to improve and increase amenities such as the library and parks. The only means to do this is to increase property tax revenue through new construction.
We need to work at encouraging developers to take a look at New Glarus and do what we can to help them within our planning structure. We have a great community here, but without growth we will stagnate to the point of not only being unable to make improvements, but to risk losing what we already have.
