In response to Governor Tony Evers’ orders to close all K-12 schools and prohibiting large gatherings, the Monticello Public Library will close at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, March 16, and will remain closed at least through Sunday, April 5. We will be reevaluating the situation daily and will provide further updates if these plans should change.

This decision was not made lightly. The scientific community agrees that “social distancing” is an important factor in preventing the spread of COVID-19. While we value serving as a community gathering space, at this time that is precisely what we should not be doing. We are taking this precautionary step on behalf of our patrons, staff, and the community during this pandemic.

During the closure, we ask that patrons not return items due to the limited capacity of our external book drop. We will be extending due dates on all materials for the convenience of all. We are a fine free library, so no need to worry about overdue fees!

While our physical location will be closed, our digital library resources are available on our website, http://www.monticellopubliclibrary.org, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, and research databases. This would be a great time to learn a language using Transparent Languages, or to read a book checked out from Overdrive!
