Pfc. Dean Gmur, patient at Shick General Hospital at Clinton, IA, was home over the weekend.

Pvt. Jacob Schmoker and Pvt. Wayne Showers were here from Ft. Sheridan on Sunday.

A record group of 243 pre-inductees reported at Milwaukee last Wednesday for pre-induction physicals and re-classifications. Many were men working on farms. There were seven busloads.

Lt. (jg) Kevin P. Lynch spent some time here with his family and left for the east coast for re-assignment. Lt. Lynch returned to this country in March after spending eleven months on board an airplane carrier in the Pacific war area. His carrier had operated in Formosa, the Philippines, in the China Seas, and near Japan. He was awarded the Navy Cross for operations against the Jap fleet in October and the Air Medal for his action in the China Sea.

Sgt. Peter Moen, back in this country after serving with the army in Europe, has been home on furlough. His wife is the former Sylvia Engen.

Pvt. Walter H. Kruesi writes that he is now on limited service at Ft. McClellan, Alb., following a three-week stay in a hospital when he was injured from mortar shell concussion. He is expected home on furlough sometime soon.

Friends have received a letter from Corp. Russell Monroe, from Germany. He formerly taught 7th and 8th grades here.

Sgt. Ralph Jacobson, who was wounded in Germany, recently visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jacobson and has returned to Camp Atterbury, Ind., where his address is: Sgt. Ralph Jacobson, Ward 2 B, Wakeman General Hospital, Camp Atterbury, Ind.

Tech Sgt. Leo J. Gempeler, son of Mrs. Wilhelmina Gempeler, Blanchardville, was slightly wounded in action in Germany on Feb. 10. He has been in service since November, 1940. In March 1943, he was sent to Iceland and remained there for a year. Since July 6, 1944, he has been in France.

Corp. James W. Durgin, son of Mrs. Delia Durgin, Monroe, was killed in action in Germany on February 24. He entered service in November, 1942, was trained at Camp Phillips, Kansas and Camp McCain, Miss., and went overseas in August 1944. Surviving are his mother, his wife, the former Betty Van Matre, a daughter, Sharon, six brothers, three of whom are in service, and three sisters.

Is Awarded Flying Medal

Lieut. Edward Vollenweider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vollenweider, Madison, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal for his operations with the Army Air Force over Europe. He returned to this country last fall after taking part in more than 70 missions over Europe and is now stationed at Lake Charles, La.

Dear Dad and Norman: Just a line to let you know I finally ran into somebody from home, Bobby Krugjohhan. I can’t tell you now where or when we met but it sure was good to see and talk to someone I knew. We will be together for a few days. He’s in a different outfit than I am. We had quite a long talk together. He said Tubby (Bobby’s brother) was around here somewhere, but he’s never had the chance to see him.

Well how is everything going? I hope you are both well and I suppose you have all kinds work.

Don’t send any packages as they would get lost. I’m feeling swell and getting plenty to eat. I had my first shower today. Love--Virgil
