IS BACK IN U.S.A.: Sgt. Peter Moen is back in the states after being a hospital patient for some time for treatment of a severe case of trench foot.

Lt. (jg) Kevin Lynch, who recently was awarded the Navy Cross, is expected in the states soon. He is a pilot on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific and has been there over a year. His wife and small daughter live here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Streiff.

Lt. Wallace Barlow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Barlow, Monticello, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Zweifel, New Glarus, is now co-pilot of the plane that takes Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestal, to all parts of the globe. He has been stationed near Washington, where they have been living for some time.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gessler have received the Purple Heart medal awarded their son, Clarence, who was seriously wounded while with the 32nd Division on Nov. 26, 1942. He is still in New Guinea but expects to be home on furlough before much longer.

Pvt. Bernard Staley and Sgt. Gerald Disch met recently in the Russell Islands, they have informed relatives here.

Pfc. Werner Ehinger, son of Mrs. Margaret Ehinger, writes that he was confined to a hospital in France for some time but is again back on duty.

Press releases last week said that the Bronze Star medal has been awarded to Pfc. Otto Kuenzi. Otto was killed in Belgium in July after participating in the invasion of Sicily, Italy, France and Belgium. His wife has had no official notice of such an award.

The Fred Kopps write us from Evansville, sending a new A.P.O. address for their son, S/Sgt. Fred Kopp in the South Pacific. They say that they have just received a letter from him saying his only complaint was that he hadn’t had any mail since the first of November. Fred enclosed a clipping from “Yank” magazine, where under the Wisconsin news was the item that “New Glarus held its William Tell pageant as usual.”

Fred Gross, Luxembourgh, January 12, 1945: Hello Art: Was surprised a few days ago by receiving the package from “The Folks at Home,” my thanks to them. Have received the “Post” regularly and sure appreciated the good will of the people at home.

There isn’t much I can say except I’m still tugging along O.K. and had a short visit with Dick Gmur while on duty here. He was O.K. and asked if Anderson was O.K. and said he was the last time he saw him.

The news of home has been good and bad. Hope that all are fine and certainly hope that everything will be at an end here soon. Give all my best regards.

Yours, Pvt. Fred Gross,

The child’s gift was sure accepted.
