February 6, 2020
On Tuesday, January 28th, the New Glarus Knights girls basketball team played at home against Cambridge. The halftime score was 12-22 with Cambridge leading and while the Knights stepped it up in the second half, they lost the game, 42-47.
“The Knights struggled early to get things going offensively,” said Coach Kim Burton. “They didn’t box out well and weren’t rotating fast enough defensively.”
Leading the team with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists was Jaylynn Benson. Lily Himmelmann and Shea Klosterman-Havens each scored 8 points and Emma Marty scored 7 points and had 4 rebounds.
On January 31st, the Lady Knights played at Wisconsin Heights.
“The Knights got off to another slow start offensively, but were playing much better team defense,” said Coach Burton. “We controlled the boards, shot well from the free throw line (17/24), and finished in transition.”
Up by three at the half, the Knights went on to win it, 52-39.
“All of the girls played well together and contributed in the victory,” added Burton.
Leading the team with 21 points and 7 rebounds was Jaylynn Benson, while Lily Himmelmann scored 9 points and pulled down 5 rebounds and Dylan Noll scored 9 points and had 3 rebounds.
New Glarus hosted Fall River on February 3rd, and will host Belleville on February 6th before heading to Marshall on February 11th.
