Hockey Team Suffers Tough Loss to McFarland

The Monroe co-op hockey team, which includes several players from New Glarus, hosted Monona Grove on January 7th. The home team took the lead early on and won, 5-2.
Blaze Janecke put Monroe on the scoreboard first just under 3 minutes into the game, with an assist from Hayden Roth and Payton Stauffacher. Ryan Molitor put one in the back of the net about 9 minutes later.
During the second period, Hayden Roth, assisted by Jared Dillon and Payton Stauffacher, scored about 1 minute in. Shortly thereafter a goal was scored by Blaze Janecke, assisted by Roth and Payton Stauffacher. Janecke, assisted by Dillon and Roth, scored again about 90 seconds later, bringing the score 5-0 in favor of the Cheesemakers.
In the third period, Monona Grove scored their two goals.
Goalie Heath Bear had 21 saves on goal.
On January 9th, the team hosted McFarland. Despite leading at one point during the second period, the Cheesemakers were handed their first loss since November by the Spartans.
This game took place in the second period. The Spartans were on the board first and Monroe came back with two goals about a minute apart. Luke Kuberski, assisted by Kaiden Klitzke, scored the first point for the team, while Cooper Dreyfus, assisted by Cade Janecke, scored goal number two. The Spartans quickly answered with a goal of their own and less than a minute later Hayden Roth, assisted by Janecke, put another one in the net to go ahead by 1. The Spartans tied it up and then two minutes later scored again to take the win.
Goalie Heath Bear had 40 saves on goal for the Cheesemakers.
On January 14th the team hosted Oregon at SLICE. They will play against Beloit Memorial at Edwards Ice Arena in Telfer Park on January 16th before heading back home to take on Edgewood, who is undefeated.
