New Glarus Prom was held on May 4, 2019. The theme was “Around the World.” Prom King was Connor Siegenthaler and Prom Queen was Daniyah Farley.

Students from the New Glarus High School SkillsUSA Team, and advisor Mr. Mihm, attended the SkillsUSA – State Leadership and Skills Conference on April 30th and May 1st, at the Alliant Energy Exhibition Hall in Madison, Wisconsin. The Engineering Team placed first in a field of 120 teams in a state level competition held during the conference.

The first annual Remember Me Red Run was held on May 11, 2019. The 5K run started at Bailey’s Run Vineyard, N8523 Klitzke Road in New Glarus. The event raised $14,000 for the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (ADAW).

On Saturday, May 11, the New Glarus Police Department and the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce hosted a bike rodeo at the Depot. Approximately 80 kids attended and learned about bike safety and were also able to have their bikes checked for safety.

Since 1902, when the New Glarus Fire Department first started, there has been an Ott serving the community every year except for three. Five generations protecting and keeping New Glarus safe. That changed when Pete Ott retired after serving the residents of New Glarus for 37 years as Assistant Fire Chief and a member of the New Glarus Fire Department Ladder Team.

On Monday evening, May 13th, the Capitol Conference Principals hosted the Capitol Conference Honors Banquet, which recognizes the top ten students from each member school. The following students were recognized from New Glarus High School: Stacy Benoy, Anika Beutler, Ellawyn Fong, Lily Tews, Haiden Zimmerman, Jaden Kreklow, Calli Lahey, Karstyn Rossing, and Emily Streiff, and Annalee Kaiser.

The New Glarus Music Fest was held on May 24-26.

On Friday, May 24, weather forecasters were calling for rain late in the afternoon and evening. This could have been a problem for the New Glarus Lions Club Chicken Barbecue. Randy and Sherry Dreger, owners of Fest Haus, stepped up and offered to host the event.

Four New Glarus seniors signed letters of intent and took part in a signing day ceremony. Haiden Zimmerman will become a Pioneer at Carroll University, where she will compete on the track and field team. Matt Hach will join the WolfPack at Madison College, where he will play on the golf team. Jared Martinson will join the Pride at Clarke University, where he will play on the golf team. Nina Schiro will become a Duhawk at Loras College, where she will compete on the swimming and diving team.

For the third straight year, the Sugar River Raiders girls varsity soccer team claimed the Capitol Conference Championship. The Raiders were undefeated in conference play, not allowing a single goal to be scored by their conference opponents.

Raider Girls Soccer won Regionals after winning over Cambridge/Deerfield and Platteville/Lancaster.

The Sugar River Raider track team had three team members compete at the state track meet in La Crosse, Haiden Zimmerman, Ava Foley and Kiara Donnell. Kiara Donnell competed in the 100M dash, and finished 9th in the state. In the 200M dash, Donnell finished 7th with a time of 25.96, setting a new school record. Ava Foley competed in the triple jump and finished in 10th place. Haiden Zimmerman competed in the discus and finished 7th.

With the merger closing scheduled for May 31st, State Bank of Cross Plains (SBCP) and Union Bank & Trust Company (UB&T) officially begin operating as one organization on June 1st. The merged financial institutions expanded SBCP’s presence from 10 locations in Dane County to a combined 15 locations operating in Dane, Rock and Green counties, with total assets topping $1.25 billion.

The Graduation Ceremony for the New Glarus Class of 2019 was held on Sunday, June 2, 2019, in the New Glarus High School Gym. Speakers at the Class of 2019 Graduation Ceremony included Brooke Dreyfus, Class President; Ellawyn Fong, Salutatorian; and Emily Streiff, Valedictorian.

Riley Keehn was crowned the 2019-2020 New Glarus Dairy Queen on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The event was held at the New Glarus Legion Hall. The New Glarus Legion Auxiliary held their annual ice cream social at the same time.

York 4-H alumna Bailey Eichelkraut received top photography honors in the Wisconsin 4-H program, as her photo was chosen to be included in the 2019 State 4-H and Youth Photo Display as a Top 12 selection.

It was a beautiful weekend for New Glarus’ Beer, Bacon & Cheese and PolkaFest festivals on June 7th through the 9th.

New Glarus Brewing Co. was presented with an Energy Efficiency Excellence Award on Tuesday, June 18th.

The annual Heidi Festival was held on June 28 & 29. The Heidi play was presented in the High School auditorium. On Saturday there was also a Heidi Family Fun and Market, held at the New Glarus Town Hall parking lot at 26 5th Avenue.

The Second Annual Blues, Brews & Food Truck Festival was held in Village Park all afternoon on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Everyone enjoyed the music, New Glarus beer, and the variety of food available.

Members of the Alphorn Triathlon organization presented the New Glarus School Board with a check for $6,250 at a recent school board meeting. A portion of the funds will be used to help with the purchase of a new scoreboard in the middle school MPR, with the remainder to be given to all high school sports teams for equipment needs they may have.

Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and graduate of New Glarus High School, and junior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s track and field team, earned third team 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America for Division III Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Camp Invention®, a nationally recognized, nonprofit summer enrichment camp program, was held at the New Glarus Elementary School the week of July 8-12. A program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF), in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Camp Invention challenges children in Grades K-6 to find their “inner inventor” by learning the process of innovation.

In an otherwise rainy area, guests at the Monroe Clinic & Hospital Foundation’s 26th Annual Dinner and a “Little Golf” event, held on June 25, were in a pocket of sunshine. It was a beautiful afternoon of mini golf that led into a night full of generous giving for a great cause. Dinner and a “Little Golf” is held annually at Swissland Miniature Golf in New Glarus, with dinner following at the New Glarus Hotel. This year, the event raised over $63,000 with 160 guests and many more individuals participating in the silent auction. Many generous donations were provided by community members and businesses for both the silent and live auctions.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, the Green County Fair paid tribute to local Veterans. To kick off the opening night, members of the New Glarus VFW, American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans Chapter III presented the flags as the audience stood to honor them.

Saturday morning, July 20th, the MadCity Velo Club hosted the New Glarus Time Trial on the country roads north of town.

Colonel (Dr.) Matthew Talarczyk, son of Karen Talarczyk and the late Richard Talarczyk, recently retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service. His last assignment was at Wright-Patterson Medical Center, where he was the Chief of Surgery and Commander of the 88th Surgical Operations Squadron, 88th Air Base Wing (AFMC), Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

New Glarus Bible Church hosted a 5-Day Club for youth ages 5-12 on July 29th – August 2nd.

Wisconsin Point of Sales officially launched a new business name and brand, Helvetia Systems.
