Now You Know, Now What?

The Green County Child Care Network, The Growing Tree, and Corrine’s Little Explorers are sponsoring a free training for parents and educators to learn more about navigating the special education process for children three and up. It will be held on Tuesday, November 19, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., in Room 1 at the Green County Health and Human Services Building, N3152 State Road 81, Monroe, WI.

The Special Education process can be overwhelming and confusing for parents and educators to navigate. Because early intervention and therapy services are proven to improve outcomes on a child’s life, it is imperative that parents understand the process and laws in place. This training will be presented by Mary Anne Oemichen of Wisconsin Family Ties, and she will provide an overview of the referral process for special education, what a 504 is, the parents role in an Individualized Education Program (IEP), navigating the IEP meeting, how to ask for and ensure your child gets the support they need, and a cheat sheet for all those pesky acronyms.
