November 11 is Veterans Day.

Thirty-five countries fought in World War 1. They fought for five years.

Finally, the countries stopped fighting. The leaders signed an armistice.

They signed the armistice on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It meant the war was over.

Americans were very happy to hear the war was over. The soldiers would be coming home.

People were so happy they went out in the streets and danced. They blew horns and whistles; bells rang. Songs were sung. They thought there would never be another war.
