Season Wraps Up for Montesian Gardens

October 31, 2019

Jack Frost has ended our blooms for this season. Montesian Gardens was established in 1997, at the suggestion of Harold and Wanda Babler. Many volunteer hours created a beautiful area following the relocation of Highway 69. Memorials provided walkways, lighting, trees and benches. Two years ago Greenwoods State Bank turned over the property to the Village of Monticello. They do a great job keeping the grass mowed all summer. The school students help with spring cleanup and mulching on the Community Work Day. The Boy Scouts and their parents stained the pergola. A few trees were severely damaged by the winter polar vortex and will be evaluated next spring. Some species do not like “wet feet.” This fall, brick planters have been added by the gazebo step from the Harold Babler memorial donation.

Thank you to the following who maintained garden plots this year: Kay Freitag Financial, John and Shirley Kummer, the Beckwith Family, Greenwoods State Bank, the Silver Family, Karen Ballin, the Eunice Witt Family, the Wanda Babler Family, Zwingli Church, Todd and Leslie Brugger, Carley Epping, Nancy Aquino and Cindy Salis, Karen Brugger, the Richard Smith Family, Barb Smith, the Ron Blumer Family, Tracy Spotts and The Potting Shed, Kaylee Ritschard, Paula Ritschard, the Disch Family, the Bessert Family and the Goins Family.
