October 17, 2019
Do your part in preventing prescription painkiller abuse and drug overdose by participating in Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Belleville Police Department will have a drive-through set up at their new police station at 61 Frederick Street.
Members from the Belleville Area Cares Coalition will be onsite to hand out $20 gift cards to those 18 years of age and older who drop off at least one medication. There is a limited supply of gift cards, so come early! Medicine lock boxes and bags will also be distributed as long as they last.
Safe Disposal Saves Lives
Communities across the country are teaming up with law enforcement to host this National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Turn in your unused or expired medications for safe disposal.
The goal is to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal of prescription medications, including prescription painkillers (opioids) and to educate the public about the potential for abuse of medications. Unused or expired prescription medications in homes is a safety issue and can lead to potential accidental poisoning, misuse and overdose.
Bring your prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, inhalers, creams, vials and pet medications. Leave the medications in their original pharmacy containers and remove the label or cross off personal information, or remove medications from pharmacy containers and place in a zip top bag.
Do not bring illegal drugs, needles/sharps, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), mercury thermometers, personal care products (shampoos, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc.), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas).
Free lock boxes will be available so that you can safely store your medications at home.
This event is sponsored by the Belleville Police Department and Safe Communities.
