Simple Things With Jerry Apps
September 5, 2019
Return to the farm with Jerry Apps as he reminisces about the simple things that made up everyday life on the farm. The Belleville Public Library is pleased to sponsor Jerry’s talk on Thursday, September 12, at 7:00 p.m., at the Belleville High School Auditorium at 635 W. Church Street.
Jerry Apps will share his memories of these simple things - an old cedar fencepost, Fanny the farm dog, the trusty tools used for farm work - and look for the deeper meanings of these objects and the values instilled in him during his rural Wisconsin boyhood in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
Jerry Apps is Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the author of many books on rural history, country life, and the environment. He has co-created four documentaries with Wisconsin Public Television and has won many awards for his writing.
Copies of his books will be available for purchase following this event.
This event is sponsored by the Belleville Public Library, with funding from Beyond the Page, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Madison Community Foundation. Beyond the Page is an endowment that funds free humanities programs at Dane County libraries.
