The Welcome Table at Monticello's Zwingli UCC Church, a Free Monthly Community Dinner
August 22, 2019
On Monday, August 26, 2019, at 530 p.m., there will be a very special community dinner sponsored by Zwingli United Church of Christ and community members. Several members of the church realized that we need more fun things to do together as a community. We have festivals, concerts, and Church dinners, these serve to gather a few very specific groups of people. So, they called some friends and developed a monthly dinner, a place where everyone could come, a place whose purpose is to gather people together. Not a fundraiser, not a place to preach or discuss a theme, a place to just be. A place that would have no restraints or issues tied to it! A night out with your neighbors.
The last Monday afternoon of each month, volunteers gather, cook and contribute to a dinner. This dinner is offered free to everyone. A night out for anyone and everyone. We have diners as young as 18 months old, as well as diners who are mid 90s. The goal is for everyone to have an evening of interaction, to recreate the family table. Parents enjoy a family evening without the hassle of cooking, others who find it hard to make a meal for one or two people can enjoy the relationships that can only be made over a good meal. There is no question this meal is for you no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey!
Each month different volunteers form the church and community make a main course while others bring sides and desserts. During the school year, the Hands of Change Youth Service group will set up, serve and clean up the meal.
