Heavy Bombers Weekend in Southern Wisconsin

The Vietnam era gunship, Douglas AC-47 Gunship, commonly known as "Spooky" or "Puff" . The AC-47 was developed to provide heavier firepower than traditional heavily armed aircraft.

If the skies over southern Wisconsin seemed a bit more noisy than usual, and non-typical airplanes flying over southern Wisconsin this past weekend, you were not seeing or hearing things that didn't exist. The annual Heavy Bombers Weekend began on Friday at both Truax Field in Madison and Southern Wisconsin Airport, just south of Janesville.

Heavy Bombers Weekend is the prelude to the annual late July, Experimental Aircraft Association annual convention and fly-in at Oshkosh. For the week of the fly-in, the Oshkosh's Whitman Field becomes the world's busiest airfield, often times hosting...
