Another season of Sugar River Track and Field wrapped up last Wednesday night with the team awards and celebrating the departing seniors. Along with recognizing the senior career highlights and their contributions to the Sugar River Track and Field Program over the years, they also discussed expectations for the underclassmen going into next season as well as the State Track meet competitors, and Kiara Donnell breaking the school record in the 200m performance at State in the finals and freshman Ava Foley breaking the Triple Jump record at the Capital Conference Track and Field Championship meet in Columbus.

"The girls had a very successful season while winning the Capital South Dual Championship, 2nd place at both the Deerfield Classic and Raider Invite," said Coach Willy Johnson. "This was the most balanced we have had on the girls side in some time and we will be looking to build upon the success they had this past season. The boys had some individual success, but were riddled with injures that limited them this season while finishing 2nd in the Capital South Dual standings and look forward to rebuilding to get back where we feel we can be."
Johnson continued, "It's always tough to say good-bye to our seniors, for they have given so much to the program over the years and we hate to see them go. They have paved the way for next season and shown the underclassmen what it is going to take in order to be able to continue to compete at a high level as nobody is going to give you hand-outs in track and field. It is now up to those who will be returning next year to take the next step to continue what the seniors have started. As a coaching staff, we want to thank all the parents and family members who supported and traveled to watch the teams compete regardless of the weather. Also to the athletes for giving us yet another memorable season."
