Lady Wildcats Win Over Lady Knights

The Belleville Wildcats softball team played at New Glarus on April 9th, picking up their fourth straight win. The final score was Belleville 16, New Glarus 0.

Belleville's Maddy Weber pitched 4 1/3 innings, picking up the win. She had nine strike outs, no walks, and only one hit. Abby Winterburn pitched the remaining 2/3 inning facing five batters, walking one, two hits and no runs.

McKenzie Keehn started out pitching for New Glarus, pitching three innings and allowing ten runs on ten hits. Maci Carney then took over on the mound.

"Belleville started off slow but were able to score five runs in the 2nd, five runs in the 3rd, two in the 4th and four more in the 5th," said Coach Connie Wunschel. "We committed one error to their four."

Belleville's Jillian Michaels was 3x4, 2 runs scored, had a double and 3 RBI while Ella Campbell was 2x3, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI, Kori Rogers, staying hot with another perfect night, 3x3, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, Bailey Legler was 2x4, 1 run scored, 2 stolen bases, 1 RBI, Raina Nicholson was 3x3, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI, Abby Winterburn was 2x3, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, freshman Courtney Ehlert got her first varsity hit, scoring a run and 2 RBI, Jenna Shrader smacked a triple to right center, Jasmyne Roberts also got a hit. Belleville had 18 hits as a team.

Meanwhile, for New Glarus, Riley Keehn, Alivia Palmer and Chloe Kramer each collected 1 hit.

On April 15th, the Wildcats saw themselves picking up their fifth win in a row as they beat Marshall, 7-4.

"The girls pulled this one off, scoring all 7 runs in the first 2 innings, then holding on to take the win," explained Coach Wunschel.

The teams were tied in the first inning, 2-2, and the Wildcats scored 5 more runs in the second inning.

"They had opportunity to do damage each inning but the 6th when we shut them down 1-2-3, and it took cool heads and some basic defense to hold them. They stranded 7 runners in total on the bases," said Wunschel about the Marshall team. "We committed only 1 error to their 3. We had 10 hits to their 7."

Maddy Weber pitched a complete game, striking out 9 and walking 3.

Ella Campbell was 2x4 with 2 runs scored, Kori Rogers was 1x3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, Bailey Legler was 2x4 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI, CC Grefsheim was 1x3 with 2 RBI and Callie Everson was 2x3 with 1 run scored.

The Wildcats played at Lodi on April 15th, at Waterloo on April 16th and host Lake Mills on April 18th.
