The Kiwanis Club of Belleville has welcomed 11 new members to join youth service and community activities in Belleville and beyond.
Thirty-five years ago, the late Bill Stevens moved to Belleville and formed the Kiwanis Club of Belleville. Since then the club has become a vital and active member of the community.
Kiwanis efforts have expanded school and community opportunities for area youth through graduate scholarships, leadership and world issue learning experiences, middle school academic awards, iPads for autistic children and the bookworm preschool and K4 reading program.
Community activities have included a local circus, lake carp-o-ree, river bank cleanup, EMS pediatric medical bags, street crossing flags, community holiday decoration, adopt a highway cleanup, little library and annual travel adventure programs.
We raise funds through our annual chili/taco meal (now in partnership with Boy Scout troop 61), community event food stands and the community garage sale.
"Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time." International efforts have worked to eliminate iodine deficiencies and maternal and neonatal tetanus in underdeveloped countries.
President Corey Brozyna is looking forward to the increased membership doing even more to provide youth and community support in the Belleville area and worldwide Kiwanis efforts.
