Dave passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, at his lake home outside of Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on December 5, 1958, to Russell and Jean (Lemke) Mertens in West Bend, WI.
Dave was the youngest of four children. He graduated from West Bend East High School. He joined the Air Force out of high school and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was in the para-sea rescue unit for many years until he transferred to the air traffic control unit until his retirement from the Air Force.
He is survived by three siblings, Mary Bigler Little, New Glarus, WI, Steve (Bernice) Mertens, Coloma, WI, and Patrick (Connie) Mertens, Kiel, WI; nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
