Knights Defeat Heights

On February 5th, the Lady Knights of New Glarus traveled to Cambridge. After leading at halftime by 7 points, New Glarus won the game. Final score, New Glarus 61, Cambridge 46.

Coach Kim Burton commented, “Senior Emily Streiff came out looking to shoot, and was dialed in at Cambridge. Emily finished with 17 points, including 3 for 3 from the 3-point arc. She also had 3 rebounds and 2 steals to help the Knights in a conference road win.”

Other team leaders included Jaylynn Benson with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, and Lily Himmelmann, who, according to Coach Burton was a “force in the paint”, finished with her second double double of the season – 16 points and 15 rebounds. Himmelmann also had 4 steals.

On Friday, February 8th, the Lady Knights hosted Wisconsin Heights.

“This was Senior Night...a chance to honor our three seniors in the program, Morgan Hustad, Emily Streiff and Lexi Krause,” said Burton. “These three have been tremendous leaders throughout the season and are willing to do anything for their teammates. All three have grown into amazing young ladies, both on and off the court, and will be missed next season.”

The Knights were on fire during the first half and held Wisconsin Heights scoreless for the first 8 minutes of the game. The halftime score saw New Glarus on top, 22-9. A battle at the free throw line ensued during the second half and there were 69 combined free throw shots in the game, with New Glarus having 33 of those in the second. The Knights went 25 of 35 from the line to secure their victory. The final score was New Glarus 59, Wisconsin Heights 39.

Leading the victory was Jaylynn Benson with 28 points, while Lexi Krause added 12 points and Morgan Hustad scored 9 points.

The team played at Palmyra-Eagle on February 11th, at Waterloo on February 14th, which was rescheduled from January 31st, at Belleville on February 16th, which was rescheduled from January 22nd and on February 22nd they host a WIAA Division 4 Regional game against the winner of the #5 Waterloo and #12 Williams Bay game being played on February 19th. New Glarus is seeded #4.
