Raiders placing in the top four of their weight class at the Capitol Conference Tournament included: Top Row: Joe Quaglia, 2nd Place; Brian Hollis, 4th Place; Cade Femrite, 4th Place; Robert Chenoweth, 1st Place. Bottom Row: Jack Diederich, 2nd Place; Holden Latsch, 4th Place; Chase Messner, 3rd Place; Danny Enloe, 1st Place.

On February 2nd, the Sugar River Wrestling Team participated in the annual Capitol Conference Tournament at Poynette High School. The Raiders finished second as a team to Lodi, with all participants finishing in the top five. Two Raider Wrestlers won individual championships, Robert Chenoweth at 145 and Danny Enloe at 285.

"Given the unusual circumstances that led up to the tournament, with the snow and cold weather, the team had limited time to practice in preparation for the tournament. However, the effort given on Saturday showed they were ready to go," commented Coach Peter Swenson. "Every member placed in the top 5! Robert Chenoweth and Danny Enloe led the way with capturing a Conference Championship in their respective weight classes. Also making the finals, but falling short, was Joe Quaglia and Jack Diederich. Avery Lettman and Chase Messner had great tournaments and both were seconds away from being in the finals. Cade Femrite and Brian Hollis scored a lot of team points by pinning all their opponents and placing 4th in their brackets. The match of the day went to Holden Latsch - was down 9-0 and came back to pin his opponent from Waterloo and take 4th place. The coaches were very placed with the team effort. Even though we didn't catch Lodi in the team race for first, we separated ourselves from everyone else by scoring bonus points. We were to pin our opponents, and if we lost, it was by points. This is a trait that good teams do week after week. Even though we had a late scratch with our 170 wrestlers, we almost scored 200 points as a team!"
