New Glarus Prom was held on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The theme for the prom was "Midnight in Paris." Prom Queen was Faith Bump and King was Jacob Krantz.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation, Sugar River Chapter, was a winner of Old National's Choose Your Charity Giveaway. "Everyone at the New Glarus branch is thrilled to partner with Quilts of Valor Foundation, Sugar River Chapter," said Laura Vorpahl, Old National Banking Center Manager.
Bailey's Run Vineyard opened in May. The vineyard/winery is located about a mile west of the Village of New Glarus on Klitzke Road, just off of STH 39.

Members of "She Loves Me" cast, crew, and pit orchestra were recently nominated Outstanding Lead Performance Jerry Awards were Annie Pollyea (Amailia Balash), Michael Schieldt (Georg Nowack), Aimee Kujak (Ilona Ritter) and Demarious King (Steven Kodaly). Nominated for Outstanding Support Performance Jerry Awards were Desmond Delforge (Mr. Maraczek), Justin Palmer (Arpad Laszlo) and Zach Frick (Waiter). Other Jerry Awards nominations included Outstanding Orchestra; Mrs. Christina Crans for Outstanding Director; Ms. Amy Doefer and Mr. Andrew Schulz for Outstanding Musical Direction; Ms. Kallie Ace for Outstanding Stage Management; and Ms. Abby Marty for Outstanding Costume Design.
A chill in the air didn't stop kids from enjoying New Glarus' Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 12, at the Depot on Railroad Street. The bike rodeo provided an opportunity for kids to practice and develop skills. They could also have their bikes checked for safety.
The New Glarus High School Jazz and Concert Bands held their Spring Concert on May 7, in the High School Auditorium. Former New Glarus Band Director Larry Daehn wrote and guest directed a piece of music he composed for the New Glarus High School Band titled "To Those Who Dream."
New Glarus received its twenty-third consecutive Tree City USA award and a total of 28 trees were planted in New Glarus on Friday, May 4th, as part of the village's annual Arbor Day tree planting.
Stuessy-Kuenzi American Legion Post #141 Commander Steve Hodgson presented Community Service Awards to Jon Durst and Meg Butenhoff. James Donnell and Sgt. Jeffrey Hataway were also given awards but were unable to attend the Memorial Day program.
The 2018 Jerry Award winners were recently announced. Among the winners were Annie Pollyea (Amalia Balash) for Outstanding Performance and Alexis Pinkston won the Spirit Award. The Jerry Awards used to be known as the Tommy Awards. The name was changed to the Jerry Awards after philanthropist and arts supporter W. Jerome Frautschi.
The temperatures soared into the mid 90s during Music Fest in New Glarus. There was still plenty to do, including enjoying great food downtown and at the New Glarus Lions Club Chicken Barbecue. Bands performed throughout the festival at various locations and businesses. There were also lots of family friendly activities.

Congratulations to the New Glarus High School Class of 2018! The Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2018 was held on Sunday, June 3, 2018, in the High School Gym.
On Thursday, May 24th, the Bank of New Glarus® and Sugar River Branches gave a $15,000 donation to the New Glarus Public Library Capital Campaign.
Tyse Hoesly and Lauren Stelter were selected as the 2018 Green County Cheese Days Prince and Princess. The pair was chosen from among nearly 40 local youth who applied back in May and participated in interviews on Saturday, June 2nd, at the Historic Green County Courthouse.
Ellawyn Fong scored a perfect score of 36 on her ACT exam.
Polkafest, New Glarus Area EMS Open House and the Beer, Bacon & Cheese celebration were very popular with visitors and locals.
Libby Fuller was crowned the 2018-2019 New Glarus Dairy Queen. Libby is the daughter of Benjamin and Laurie Fuller, and attends New Glarus High School.
For the first time in school history, the New Glarus golf team competed in Division 3 at the WIAA State Golf Tournament on June 4th and 5th, at University Ridge Golf Course. New Glarus ended up finishing in 6th place as a team, and Matt Hach placed 6th as an individual.
The Sugar River Raiders played in State Tournament at Milwaukee's Uihlein Soccer Park against Green Bay Notre Dame on Friday, June 15th. The Sugar River Raider Girls Soccer team lost to Green Bay Notre Dame in the WIAA Division 3 State Semi-Final game.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday, June 20, at the New Glarus Fire Department to recognize the start of construction of an addition to its station.
At their meeting on Tuesday, June 19, the Town of New Glarus Board passed a resolution establishing a challenge grant of up to $100,000 for the capital campaign for the new library in New Glarus.

The Sugar River Rapids swim team hosted the Heidi Invitational on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Teams that participated along with Sugar River were Belleville, Bishops Bay, Monroe and Platteville.
Members of the New Glarus and Belleville Fire Departments worked together to staff the DeForest Windsor fire district on Saturday, July 14th, so that all of their members could attend the funeral for fallen Sun Prairie Fire Department Captain Cory Barr.
Organizers estimate approximately 2,000 people came out to enjoy the inaugural Blues, Brews and Food Truck Festival held in the New Glarus Village Park on Saturday, July 14, 2018.
Jon Durst was named the American Legion Department of Wisconsin's Outstanding Firefighter of Wisconsin for 2018 at the American Legion Department Convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

Firefest was held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Fire Station. There were lots of great family-friendly activities, food and music.
Volksfest was held on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Tell Shooting Park. Volksfest celebrates Swiss Independence and the birth of the Swiss nation achieved in 1291. Volkfest honors the community and its Swiss Heritage.
To lessen the burden of time and money for families, the New Glarus Elementary and Middle Schools have significantly shortened the school supply lists for students in 4K-8th grade for the 2018-2019 school year, as well as eliminated most fees for summer school, after-school adventures, and middle school sports.

The Graduation Ceremony for the New Glarus Class of 2018 was held on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., in the New Glarus High School Gymnasium.
Brad Beal, of Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus and Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville, recently received a plaque for 50 years of service as a Funeral Director. The award was presented at the Wisconsin Funeral Director's Association Convention at Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI.
Edelweiss Chalet Country Club celebrated an important milestone. In 1968, the golf course opened to the public for the first time.
Record rainfall was recorded around the area on Monday, August 20, 2018. Local reports varied widely from around 4 to 7.5 inches in and around New Glarus. There were even reports of 14.5 inches of rain near Verona. The massive rains brought flooding, causing damage to basements and other areas. The New Glarus Area EMS had standing water that caused damage to walls, flooring, furniture and electronics, as well as other equipment.
