Sunflowers, Burgers, Brats, and Beer

A Harvest Celebration and Fundraiser at the Three Waters Reserve in Brodhead

November 15, 2018

Buy a bag of birdseed and get a free, locally-produced burger or brat! Wash it down with local brew, and repeat.

The Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy and local conservation partners welcome the community to a harvest celebration and fundraiser Saturday, November 17, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., at the new Three Waters Reserve (formerly the front nine of the Decatur Lake Golf Course), located at 3941 Golf Course Road, Brodhead, WI.

Those beautiful sunflowers that bloomed this summer were recently harvested. The seed is now in 30 lb bags and ready for purchase from SWLC and partnering organizations for your birdfeeders and as holiday gifts. Sunflower oil will also be pressed and bottled for sale after Thanksgiving, and orders can be placed at the harvest celebration.

Bring family, friends, and neighbors, buy a bag of seed or two, enjoy great food, meet SWLC and partners, and learn about future plans for the Reserve. The purchase of one bag of seed will get you one free burger or brat. Additional burgers and brats will be for sale. Beer will be sold at the former country club bar.

Non-profit organizations participating with SWLC in the fundraiser and sale of birdseed and oil include the Pearl Island Recreational Corridor Committee, Decatur Lake Mill Race Association, Green-Rock Audubon Society, and the Prairie Enthusiasts. Other partners include Ten Eyck Orchard and the Riemer Family Farm, who will sell direct from their orchard and farm stores. Seed and oil will also be for sale in local participating businesses who display a sunflower poster.

SWLC will share 25% of each sale of birdseed with partnering organizations to help fund their local conservation projects. SWLC will use all remaining funds for restoration of Reserve lands for people, wildlife, and water.

If you cannot attend the harvest celebration, you can contact SWLC, Steve Apfelbaum (608) 897-8641, steve@appliedeco.com, to order your seed and oil directly, or stop by or contact any of the participating partners or businesses.
