The Monroe/New Glarus cooperative girls swim team competed at the 2018 Badger South Conference Swim Meet in Stoughton on October 27th.

“Saturday was an exciting day in the water for MNG! There were 40 PRs set on Saturday by the combined teams of JV and Varsity,” said Coach Linda Moser. “It was a combined JV and Varsity conference meet, with 22 of those being set by the JV team and 18 being set by Varsity. (Scored separately, but swimming in one meet instead of two separate meets.) Alyssa Roelli shaved three seconds off of her 200 free time, Mekenzie Hammer swam to a personal best in her 200 IM, Morgan Erstad broke the team record again in the 500 free, her teammate Nina Schiro swam to a personal best this season in the 500, in breaststroke Karley Michels placed 5th with a personal best time.”

In the 200Y Medley Relay, the team consisting of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Morgan Erstad finished fifth with a time of 1:58.82. Finishing eleventh was the team of Nina Schiro, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Cammi Ganshert, with a time of 2:05.15.

In the 200Y Freestyle, Alyssa Roelli finished ninth with a time of 2:07.82, while Anna Newcomer finished thirteenth with a time of 2:12.02 and Kendra Wenger finished sixteenth with a time of 2:13.32.

Finishing third in the 200Y IM was Mekenzie Hammer with a time of 2:15.12. Kaitlyn Elgin finished ninth with a time of 2:31.52.

In the 50Y Freestyle, Francesca Schiro finished ninth with a time of 26.43, while Cammi Ganshert finished fifteenth with a time of 27.39, Laurel Houston finished twenty-second with a time of 28.61 and Karley Michels finished twenty-third with a time of 28.62.

In the 100Y Butterfly, Alyssa Roelli finished ninth with a time of 1:05.21, Samantha Schiro finished nineteenth with a time of 1:11.62 and Peyton Yaun finished twenty-first with a time of 1:12.49.

In the 100Y Freestyle, Francesca Schiro placed eleventh with a time of 57.51 and Kendra Wenger placed seventeenth with a time of 1:00.97.

In the 500Y Freestyle, Morgan Erstad finished second with a time of 5:26.22, while Nina Schiro placed fourth with a time of 5:36.73 and Kaitlyn Elgin placed tenth with a time of 5:56.39.

In the 200Y Freestyle Relay, the team of Alyssa Roelli, Kendra Wenger, Francesca Schiro and Cammi Ganshert placed ninth with a time of 1:47.84, while the team of Samantha Schiro, Karley Michels, Peyton Yaun and Anna Newcomer finished fourteenth with a time of 1:55.20.

In the 100Y Backstroke, Mekenzie Hammer finished fourth with a time of 59.63, while Morgan Erstad finished sixth with a time of 1:01.39 and Nina Schiro placed ninth with a time of 1:04.31.

In the 100Y Breaststroke, Karley Michels finished fifth with a time of 1:13.98, Anna Newcomer finished tenth with a time of 1:17.56, Peyton Yaun finished thirteenth with a time of 1:18.85 and Elsa Schaefer finished eighteenth with a time of 1:21.22.

Placing third in the 400Y Freestyle Relay was the team consisting of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Morgan Erstad, with a time of 3:45.97. Finishing in tenth place was the team of Anna Newcomer, Kaitlyn Elgin, Kendra Wenger and Cammi Ganshert with a time of 4:03.42.

At the end of the meet, Monroe/New Glarus Varsity finished in third place and JV finished in fifth place. Varsity finished their regular season at third place in the Badger South Conference. The next meet takes place on November 3rd in Baraboo, and is the Division 2 Sectional meet. Only 12 swimmers from the team will be moving on to sectionals.
