On Monday, October 29, 2018, notice was given that the two subjects were fugitives from law enforcement, and were wanted on multiple felony charges. The known possession of a weapon and extraordinary acts to evade arrest, elevated concerns for public safety. Although their last known whereabouts was in the Milwaukee area, local ties to Green County made their return likely.

The Green County Sheriff's Office is notifying area residents to be on the lookout for two fugitives with local community ties. Arrest warrants have been issued for crimes committed in Green and surrounding counties consisting of armed robbery, thefts, and bail jumping. Additional charges are pending.

Samuel R. Schutte, 34, formerly of rural Monroe, and Stephanie E. Retzlaff, 28, of Monona, are traveling together in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois and are suspects in a string of crimes over the past two months. An armed robbery charge stems from an incident where Schutte threatened a family member with a firearm to obtain cash from a bank account. Retzlaff is named as a party to these crimes.

In efforts to apprehend the pair, they have fled active pursuit from law enforcement officers. In Dane County they evaded arrest after nearly striking a US Marshall with their vehicle. Then again in Milwaukee County, managed to avoid capture after crashing a stolen vehicle and fleeing on foot after a nearly six-mile chase. The nature of their crimes, known drug use, and the extraordinary efforts made to avoid capture make them an elevated risk to the public.

Stephanie Retzlaff

The suspect's descriptions are as follows: Samuel R. Schutte, Male, White, Age: 34, Height: 5'10", Weight: 190, Hair: Blonde (short), Eyes: Blue. Stephanie E. Retzlaff, Female, White, Age: 28, Height: 5'9", Weight: 135, Hair: Brown, Eyes: Green.

At this time the subjects are believed to be in the Milwaukee area, yet may likely attempt to find another vehicle to facilitate their escape. The public is being asked to report any knowledge of their whereabouts or sightings to local law enforcement immediately.

Please do not attempt to contact or confront these subjects as they are considered dangerous.
