The community of Belleville, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will hold a Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Sunday, October 28, 2018, in the parking lot next to the Belleville Fire Station, 33 E. Main Street, from Noon to 2:00 p.m.

This effort will continue to bring focus to the issue of prescription painkiller abuse in Wisconsin. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper storage and disposal of these medications.

The Belleville Area Cares Coalition (www.bellevillecares.net) will be on hand to assist with the collection. BACC will be handing out promotional items to include Prescription Drug Lock Boxes and Bags for safe storage of your prescription medication, refrigerator locks, and coffee mugs/pens/computer mouse pads.

And, as our way of saying “thank you” for supporting the Belleville Area Cares Coalition for the past four years, we are giving a $20.00 gift certificate from Burreson’s Foods (limited number available, we will distribute until gone, one per family).

Guidelines

1. All waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household – no businesses are allowed.

2. Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications.

3. Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, and sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), and mercury thermometers.

4. Participants may dispose of solid, non-liquid medication(s) by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages without the medications being removed are acceptable.

5. Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging and their weight evenly distributed within the boxes of collected solid prescription medications. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.

6. Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.
