The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team competed against Fort Atkinson on Tuesday, October 9th. JV won 78-35 and the Varsity team also had a victory, 118-52.

“It was Senior Night, and a great way to celebrate four years of swimming for those girls,” said Coach Linda Moser. “Nina Schiro, from New Glarus, is a senior this year and also swam her best 400 free time of the season!”

The team of Nina Schiro, Karley Michels, Mekenzie Hammer and Cammi Ganshert won the 200M Medley Relay with a time of 2:13.73. Placing third was the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Elsa Schaefer, Samantha Schiro and Kendra Wenger, with a time of 2:21.07, and the team of Kayleigh Nesbitt, Peyton Yaun, Emily Meritt and Laurel Houston finished fourth with a time of 2:32.11.

Morgan Erstad won the 200M Freestyle event, with a time of 2:14.26, while Anna Newcomer placed third with a time of 2:28.55 and Samantha Schiro finished sixth with a time of 2:38.56.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 200M IM with a time of 2:31.01. Placing second was Alyssa Roelli with a time of 2:47.12, while Karley Michels placed third with a time of 2:52.95.

Francesca Schiro won the 50M Freestyle with a time of 29.18, while Cammi Ganshert placed second with a time of 30.14 and Kaitlyn Elgin placed third with a time of 31.48.

In the 100M Butterfly, Alyssa Roelli placed second with a time of 1:15.51, Samantha Schiro finished fourth with a time of 1:20.80 and Peyton Yaun placed fifth with a time of 1:21.13.

In the 100M Freestyle, Francesca Schiro placed second with a time of 1:03.84 while Kendra Wenger placed third with a time of 1:08.14 and Anna Newcomer finished fifth with a time of 1:10.14.

Morgan Erstad won the 400M Freestyle event with a time of 4:49.77, while Nina Schiro placed second with a time of 5:00.58 and Tatiana Bobrowicz finished fourth with a time of 5:48.52.

The team of Francesca Schiro, Cammi Ganshert, Alyssa Roelli and Morgan Erstad won the 200M Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:58.44 while the team of Kendra Wenger, Samantha Schiro, Peyton Yaun and Anna Newcomer finished third with a time of 2:05.48, and the team of Karley Michels, Elsa Schaefer, Emily Meritt and Laurel Houston placed fourth with a time of 2:11.61.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 100M Backstroke with a time of 1:06.85, while Nina Schiro placed second with a time of 1:13.06 and Kaitlyn Elgin placed third with a time of 1:15.52.

Karley Michels won the 100M Breaststroke with a time of 1:23.25, while Peyton Yaun finished third with a time of 1:25.97 and Elsa Schaefer finished fourth with a time of 1:28.36.

The team of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Morgan Erstad and Francesca Schiro won the 400M Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:17.31, while the team of Cammi Ganshert, Anna Newcomer, Kendra Wenger and Alyssa Roelli placed second with a time of 4:34.44 and the team of Laurel Houston, Dee Delforge, Tatiana Bobrowicz and Kaitlyn Elgin placed fourth with a time of 4:57.44.

The team next competed at the Black Hawk Invite on Saturday, October 13th.

“The girls had an exciting day on Saturday and finishing 2nd at the Fort Invite! That is the best finish MNG has had at the Blackhawk invite,” said Coach Moser. “All of the swimmers PRd in one if not both of their individual events and the relays all posted PR times too! DeForest won the invite with 386 points, and MNG had 323 and Sauk was close behind with 313.”

In the 200Y Medley Relay, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Morgan Erstad placed second with a time of 1:56.44, while the team of Nina Schiro, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Emily Meritt placed eleventh with a time of 2:07.35.

In the 200Y Free event, Alyssa Roelli finished fifth with a time of 2:10.95, Anna Newcomer finished eighth with a time of 2:11.83 and Kendra Wenger finished ninth with a time of 2:12.84.

In the 200Y IM, Mekenzie Hammer finished second with a time of 2:15.96, while Kaitlyn Elgin finished eighth with a time of 2:29.47.

In the 50Y Free, Francesca Schiro finished tenth with a time of 26.86, Cammi Ganshert finished fourteenth with a time of 27.63 and Emily Meritt finished twenty-second with a time of 29.54.

In the 100Y Fly, Alyssa Roelli finished seventh with a time of 1:05.48 and Samantha Schiro finished fifteenth with a time of 1:11.96.

In the 100Y Free, Francesca Schiro placed sixth with a time of 58.04, while Kendra Wenger placed twelfth with a time of 1:00.78, Cammi Ganshert finished eighteenth with a time of 1:01.57 and Emily Meritt placed twenty-third with a time of 1:04.31.

In the 500Y Free, Morgan Erstad finished eighth with a time of 5:39.25 and Nina Schiro finished ninth with a time of 5:42.23.

In the 200Y Free Relay, the team of Anna Newcomer, Cammi Ganshert, Alyssa Roelli and Francesca Schiro finished eighth with a time of 1:50.19 while the team of Karley Michels, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Kaitlyn Elgin finished thirteenth with a time of 1:54.88.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 100Y Backstroke with a time of 59.29, while Morgan Erstad placed seventh with a time of 1:05.19, Nina Schiro placed eleventh with a time of 1:06.73 and Kaitlyn Elgin placed twelfth with a time of 1:07.79.

In the 100Y Breaststroke, Karley Michels placed sixth with a time of 1:15.27, Peyton Yaun finished tenth with a time of 1:17.41, Anna Newcomer finished eleventh with a time of 1:18.06 and Elsa Schaefer finished seventeenth with a time of 1:20.81.

In the 400Y Free Relay, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Morgan Erstad finished third with a time of 3:51.82, while the team of Cammi Ganshert, Kaitlyn Elgin, Kendra Wenger and Anna Newcomer finished eighth with a time of 4:03.93.

The team swam at Monona Grove on October 16th, and will compete in an invitational at UW-Platteville on October 20th.
