The Sugar River Raiders soccer team hosted Wisconsin Dells for a conference match up on September 18th, winning 8-1.
"Another tough conference game. The Raiders came out ready to play," said Coach Kyle Webber. "Put some tough shots on goal which resulted in our favor. The guys worked hard putting the Dells under pressure for most of the game. We passed and moved the ball around well, which help open space for our forwards. Besides the mosquitos, it was a great night."
The Raiders were first on the scoreboard early in the first half, with a goal by Jaden Kreklow, assisted by Logan Winklepleck. Charlie Douma, assisted by Jack Gentilli, scored the second goal which was followed one minute later by a goal by Kreklow, assisted by Gentilli. Wisconsin Dells then scored their only goal. Charlie Douma scored two more goals in the first, assisted by Owen Odegard with one and Justin Knoebl with the other. In the second half, Bryson Jelle scored two goals, and Logan Winklepleck, assisted by Charlie Douma, scored the eight goal for the team.
Julian Lutz had four saves at goalkeeper.
On September 20th, the Raiders traveled to Grinwald Park to play Watertown Luther Prep and won, 1-0.
"Very tough and physical conference game tonight," said Webber. "Both teams were bringing the pressure. Lots of close scoring chances throughout the game. With two minutes left, Sugar River had a corner kick. Connor DeLorme sent the ball to the back post where Jaden Kreklow was able to put his head on the ball for a nice goal. Huge win for the Raiders."
Julian Lutz recorded three saves for the team at goalkeeper.
Sugar River is now 8-0 overall, and 5-0 in conference play. They hosted Cambridge-Deerfield on September 25th, and will host Columbus on October 2nd.
