Sugar River Defeats Lake Mills
September 20, 2018
The Sugar River soccer team played at Lake Mills on September 11th, defeating the home team 3-1.
“Tough Capitol Conference game tonight. Both teams had many great opportunities to score. Sugar River did a great job containing Lake Mills’ offensive threat. A fantastic counter attack by Lake Mills started the game off with the first goal. A brilliant free kick taken outside the 18-yard box by Jack Gentilli brought the game level at halftime,” said Coach Kyle Webber. “The second half saw lots of goal scoring opportunities fall for both teams. Sugar River scored off a corner kick midway through the second half. Milo Hoesly capped the scoring off in the 83rd minute with a one touch finish following a beautiful pass by Jaden Kreklow.”
Lake Mills got on the scoreboard first in the first half, and Gentilli’s score tied it up at 1-1 at halftime. Gentilli, assisted by Logan Winklepleck, scored Sugar River’s second goal in the second half and Jaden Kreklow assisted Milo Hoesly with the team’s final point. Goalkeeper Julian Lutz had five saves.
The team hosted Wisconsin Dells in New Glarus on September 18th and play at Watertown Luther Prep on September 20th and Edgewood on September 22nd, before returning to Belleville to face Cambridge-Deerfield on September 25th.
