The Belleville Wildcats played football at Nekoosa's Holland Field on a crisp Wisconsin Friday night, winning 24-0.
"Our defense had a phenomenal game! It was a team effort to make big plays to help us with the win," explains Coach Chase Ritter. "Jared Schulting picked up a fumble that was forced by Isaac Morrick in the second quarter and returned it for a touchdown for our first score of the game. We closed out the half with a huge throw from Nate Mabis to Josh Grebel for a 22-yard touchdown to have a 14-0 lead at halftime. Our defense continued to make plays, with Sawyer Fahey coming up with two interceptions to keep Nekoosa at bay. Luke Kelly lead our rushing attack and the offensive line allowed us to control the pace of the game and get the big win. We are thrilled to have different players step up each game making huge plays for us to help us win. We are playing so well as a team and hope to continue to build on that as we play New Glarus this week."
Quarterback Nate Mabis passed for 94 yards, going 8 for 17 for one touchdown and was intercepted once. Luke Kelly had 119 rushing yards on 17 attempts and one touchdown to lead the Wildcats, while Sawyer Fahey had 29 rushing yards on six attempts and Jack Diederich ended the game with 18 rushing yards on four attempts. The leading receiver for Belleville was Jared Schulting, with 40 yards and one touchdown while Sean Hagen had 23 yards on three receptions and Josh Grebel had 22 yards on one reception and scored a touchdown.
Defensively, the team had five sacks against Nekoosa, two from Josh Grebel, and one each from Marcus Markiewicz, Noah Karr and Colin Derke, and Sawyer Fahey had an interception.
