Ponies Volleyball Victorious Over Vikings

The Monticello Ponies volleyball team hosted a tournament on Saturday, August 25th. Albany, Belmont, Black Hawk, Darlington, Juda, Pecatonica and River Ridge all competed.

On Court 1 in Rehmstedt Gym, Black Hawk won both sets against Belmont, 25-13, 25-13. River Ridge won over Pecatonica, 25-6, 10-15. Black Hawk won over Pecatonica, 25-16, 20-10. River Ridge won over Belmont, 25-5, 25-8. Black Hawk and River Ridge split two sets, River Ridge winning one at 25-15 and Black Hawk winning the other, 25-22. Belmont won over Pecatonica, 25-20, 27-26. Pool A Finals: Black Hawk, 5-1, Belmont, 2-4, Pecatonica 0-6 and River Ridge 5-1.

Over on Court 2 in the Elmer Lemon Gym, Darlington and Monticello split two sets, Darlington 25-18 and Monticello 25-23. Juda won over Albany, 25-10, 25-20. Monticello won over Juda, 25-23, 25-17. Darlington won over Albany, 25-12, 25-8. Monticello won over Albany, 27-26, 25-21. Darlington won over Juda, 25-13, 25-7. Pool B Finals: Monticello, 5-1, Darlington 5-1, Juda 2-4 and Albany, 0-6.

Playing in the Championship Round, Silver Bracket, in the Rehmstedt Gym in game one was Belmont versus Albany, with Belmont winning. In game two it was Pecatonica versus Juda, with Juda winning. In the Gold Bracket Championship Round, played in the Elmer Lemon Gym, River Ridge won over Monticello and Black Hawk won over Darlington. River Ridge won the Gold Bracket and Juda won the Consolation Bracket.

On Tuesday, August 28th, the Monticello Ponies Volleyball team hosted Pecatonica and won in four sets, 25-14, 22-25, 25-13, 25-16.

Leading the team in kills was Abby Wicker, with 17, while Maggie Back had 15 kills. Lindsey Pence had 30 assists, Lexie Graber had 6 aces, Mackie Errthum had 5 blocks and Hannah Zanow and Alyssen Noriega had 9 digs each.

On August 30th, the Ponies hosted Black Hawk. Black Hawk won it in four sets, 25-15, 18-25, 25-11, 25-15.

Alyssen Noriega had 16 digs, Maggie Bak had 7 kills and Lindsey Pence had 18 assists.

The Ponies played in Argyle on September 4th, host Albany on September 6th and head to a tournament in Brodhead on September 8th.
