Henry Tyler Gilbertson, age 82 of Monticello, died early Wednesday morning, August 1, 2018, at the New Glarus Home. He was born to Henry Tyler and Clara (Dammen) Gilbertson on June 15, 1936, in York Township near Blanchardville.

His father died when he was an infant. He grew up with his mother and siblings farming in rural Blanchardville. Henry joined the United States Army and served for two years. While serving in the Army, he married Grace Marie Broten on December 21, 1956, in the Old York Church. After leaving service he worked for P W Ryan Sons for most of his working years, operating heavy equipment crushing gravel. Henry and Grace lived in Monticello for all of their married years. After leaving Ryan Sons, Henry also worked at Laidlaw in Monticello for many years. He retired to stay home and take care of his wife, Grace. Henry was a true Cubs fan. He was a great mechanic and could fix anything. He also enjoyed gardening. He loved traveling the area visiting family and friends, anyone who needed company. He played the accordion, learning and playing by ear. Henry was a wonderful father and grandfather, setting a great example for his family. He provided for his family, raised his children to be happy, and he gave them all the help he could, giving them all they needed to live the life of their dreams.

Henry is survived by four children, Beverly Gilbertson of Blanchardville, Marvin (Theresa) Gilbertson of Keller, TX, Craig Gilbertson (Lisa Appleby) of Machesney Park, IL, and Rita Gilbertson of New Glarus; two grandchildren, Ashley and Heather Gilbertson of Keller, TX; three sisters-in-law, Diana Kitto of Lancaster, Elizabeth Broten of New Glarus, and Mary Gilbertson of Argyle.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace, who died on April 15, 2004; an infant daughter, Linda Gilbertson; 10 brothers and sisters, Hartford Gilbertson, Bonnie Johnson, Clarenda Berry, Marvin Gilbertson, Tilman Gilbertson, Janet Hardyman, Alve Gilbertson, Lela Jenny, Delores Jenny and Orville Gilbertson.

A visitation for Henry Gilbertson was held on Sunday, August 5, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Blanchard Hall, 206 South Main Street in Blanchardville. A funeral service was held on Monday, August 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at Blanchard Hall. Rev. Lance Smith of the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Blanchardville.
