Monticello Blood Drive a Success

June 28, 2018

Dear Editor,

The Monticello Red Cross Blood Drive was held on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Zwingli Church in Monticello. Although there were not a lot of appointments to start the day, we had a good number of walk-ins who helped us to nearly meet our unit goal. The goal for the day was 40 units and we completed the drive with thirty donors and a total of 35 units collected. Thank you to everyone who came and made our blood drive a success!

Once again, our canteen was well stocked with delicious food. Thank you to Casey’s General Store for a wonderful variety of fresh-baked cookies, to Colony Brands for cheese and sausage and chocolates, to Karen and Roger Brugger for milk and ice cream (a special June Dairy Month treat), and to Swiss Heritage cheese for a nice variety of tasty cheeses. Thanks to Lucille Elmer and Rosemary Avery for helping to keep the canteen clean and for replenishing the food plates. It is always nice to see the blood donors linger at the canteen table and enjoy the food and the conversation. Also, thank you to the Zwingli Church for the use of their facilities.

Thank you to the Monticello Lions members who helped to break down and carry out the Red Cross supplies and to the Monticello Honor Society members for helping to set up. It makes the job easier when there are so many helping hands.

The Red Cross is working to make the drives go well for everyone. The number of people who use Rapid Pass increases with each blood drive. Rapid Pass enables donors to read the required booklet beforehand and print off a confirmation or store it to their phone. The confirmation is then presented at registration, enabling folks to move more quickly through the process.

The four members of the Monticello Red Cross Blood Drive Committee were presented with Premier Blood Partners Program pins by the Red Cross. Blood Drives in Monticello collected 188 units of blood in 2017. Thank you to the community for being so dedicated to sharing your health and time with others who need your help. We are proud and happy to bring everyone together for a good cause.

Hope to see you all at our next blood drive in October!

Best Wishes,

Monticello Red Cross Blood Drive Committee
