RUDOLPH ROHNER
June 21, 2018
Rudolph Rohner, known to his friends as "Rudy," passed away in his home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the age of 88 years.
In 1957, at the age of 27, Rudy left his friends and family in Switzerland and immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, to work in the printing industry. In 1970, Rudy started his own printing company with a single press in a rented garage and grew his dream into an award-winning company, catering to the Chicago design and arts community. Rudy operated Rohner Printing Company for 23 years.
Rudy and his wife, Martha, raised their three sons in the Chicago area, and also had strong ties to the beautiful Swiss community of New Glarus. Rudy was an original partner in the Chalet Landhaus and also sold the original building to the New Glarus Brewery when they first were being established in the area. Rudy became a very active member of this community by playing roles in the Wilhelm Tell Play, serving brats at the beer stand in front of the New Glarus Hotel, and enjoying the company of many friends.
In later years, Rudy and Martha were sharing their time between their Dodgeville home and Brookdale Independent Living Facility in Oak Park, Illinois. No matter where Rudy resided, he needed a clear view of the sun setting, which he so enjoyed.
Rudy will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Martha (Hug); and his sons, Philip (Stephanie), David (Heather), and Bruno (Victoria); along with eight grandchildren, Eric, Aubrey Stuessy, Kaleigh, Alexander, Christopher, Nicholaus, Claudia and Marta; and one great-grandchild, Brooks Stuessy.
A special thank you from the Rohner family goes out to Hospice Care and the Brookdale staff in Oak Park, Illinois, for their help at the end of Rudy's life.
In keeping with his wishes, a private celebration of Rudy's/Opa's life will take place with his immediate family members.
