Candidates File for Gubernatorial Primary

The filing period for candidates wishing to run in the August 2018 primary came to an end on June 1st. The most contested race of the year in Wisconsin is the gubernatorial election in which incumbent Governor Scott Walker is seeking a third term.

Early on, the race started out with 32 people exploring the possibility of a run, 19 of which were Democrats; but after the deadline for filing passed, the pool was narrowed to just 16 candidates. Of the 16, 10 are Democrats, one from the Wisconsin Party, one from the Wisconsin Green Party, one Libertarian, one Independent and one Republican.

Democrats on the primary ballot include Andy Gronik, Fox Point; Kathleen Vinehout, Alma; Tony Evers, Madison; Dana Wachs, Eau Claire; Mike McCabe, Madison; Matt Flynn, Milwaukee; Mahlon Mitchell, Fitchburg; Kelda Roys, Madison; Paul Soglin, Madison; and Josh Pade, Milwaukee.

Arnie Enz of Appleton is running as on the Wisconsin Party ticket, the Wisconsin Green Party candidate is Michael White of Mindoro, Phillip Anderson of Fitchburg is the Libertarian candidate, Maggie Turnbull is running as an Independent and Robert Meyer of Sun Prairie is the lone Republican facing off against Walker for his party’s nomination.
