The Glarners Go to Birmingham

April 26, 2018

Twenty-three New Glarus students traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, during their spring break to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. They worked on five different houses in Birmingham, doing work including hanging drywall, tiling bathrooms, insulating and cleaning. On their final work day, they transformed the entire exterior of their new friend Ms. Duncan's house, prepping and painting it, as well as repairing the porch.

The trip was co-sponsored by Science Club, FCCLA and Spanish Club. In addition to their work week, the students visited the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the University of Alabama-Birmingham, the Huntsville Space Center, and downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The New Glarus Service Clubs United would like to thank the following sponsors for making their trip possible: New Glarus Youth Committee, New Glarus PTO, Brenda's Blumenladen, New Glarus Brewing Company, Jeanne Meier, New Glarus Hotel, and Lamers Bus Company.
