Cole Monroe, James Gustafson, Carson Heller, Matthew Loshaw, Alexandra Steckalis and Gina Salmela decided to bring their friendship, teamwork, professionalism and talents to accomplish the BadgerBOTS Robotics mission. Their team name was "The Water Detectives."

Badgerbots Robotics is an educational organization whose mission is to inspire young people to be excited about science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship and math.

They started their mission on September 8, 2017, with the guidance of their coaches Kelly Monroe, Mitch Heller, and Patrick Gustafson. The team met at least weekly to build a robot out of Legos, program the robot to complete complex tasks and missions, and to discuss and devise a solution that would help the world. This year's topic was HydroDynamics. The team needed to choose and solve a real world problem related to water. The team collaboratively researched and devised a solution to identify underground aquifers. In some areas of the world, the water is available in aquifers, but the cost is high to obtain the water. The team devised a plan to identify underground aquifers by modifying the current method of finding oil. This solution provided affirmation that water was present before starting the drilling process, which in turn provided better cost efficiency.

The team competed in the Regional competition on November 11, 2017. They were recognized as one of the top teams, and secured a spot in the Sectional competition. At the Sectional competition on January 16, 2018, they again were recognized as a top team landing them a spot to compete at the State competition. The State competition took place in Janesville, Wisconsin, on February 25, 2018. With their collaboration, teamwork, and leadership, they had a great season and made many great memories!
