Madison’s Brazen Dropouts Cycling Team hosted three bike races in the New Glarus; on Saturday, July 29, were the time trial and road race and on Sunday the Criterium was held on village streets.
The Swiss Church Cemetery Committee hosted two free walking tours of the historic Swiss Church Cemetery, in the heart of New Glarus, on Saturday, August 5th.
The New Glarus Fire Department hosted Firefest on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the New Glarus Fire Station, 212 4th Avenue. Firefest is an interactive family event, featuring Fire Truck Rides, Kid’s Waterfights, Kid’s Firefighter Challenge, Inflatable Rides, and Adult Waterfights (open to any three person team). There was also food, beverages and musical entertainment.
Sunday, August 6th, the Männerchor New Glarus hosted the annual Volksfest Celebration. Volksfest celebrates Swiss Independence and the birth of the Swiss nation achieved in 1291.
The Alphornman Triathlon and AlphornKids Splash ‘N Dash were held on Sunday August 6, 2017.
Over 100 youth players participated in NGM Youth football’s “Knights Under the Lights” in the combined practice under the lights.
In July, the official Advanced Placement test results were released by CollegeBoard for the 2016-2017 school year. New Glarus High School issued 59 Advanced Placement tests and the final results revealed a 90.7 percent pass rate. The 90.7% pass rate is an all-time high for New Glarus High School, topping the 80.5% pass rate from the 2013-2014 school year.
At their July 27th meeting, the Town of New Glarus Parks Commission presented Boy Scout Troop 106 with monies earned during distribution of trees from the commission’s annual Tree Sale Program.
At the American Legion Department Convention in Appleton, WI, Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus Post #141 was awarded the National American Legion Post Excellent Award. This is the seventh consecutive year that the post has won this award. Also at the same Convention, State Commander Dan Seehafer presented the Department’s Emergency Medical Technician of the Year Award to Rachel Anderson of the New Glarus Area Emergency Medical Service.

On Sunday, August 27, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Habitat for Humanity House site on the corner of 2nd Street and 1st Avenue. The family of Greg Grunewald was introduced and a brief schedule of anticipated progress was presented.
Grace Church sponsored its annual New Glarus Family Festival was held on September 10, 2017 in the New Glarus Village Park.
Monroe Martial Arts/New Glarus Tae Kwon Do had 19 students who qualified to represent the State of Wisconsin in the 2017 State Games of America in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on August 4-6, 2017.
The Wilhelm Tell Drama has been presented on Labor Day weekend in New Glarus since 1938. Since 1953, the production has been staged at the Tell Grounds on CTH W, east of the Village of New Glarus. The 80th Annual Wilhelm Tell Play was on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend, and was held at the Wilhelm Tell grounds, just outside of New Glarus.
The Monroe/New Glarus swim team swam to a first place finish in the Lodi Invitational on Saturday, September 9th. The girls collectively posted 11 PRs and had six first place finishes.
The New Glarus Police several bags and school supplies to the New Glarus Elementary School, as well as several extra much needed items for the schools that they use throughout the school year. The department purchased these out of the New Glarus Police Department Community Relations Fund.
Randy and Sherry Dreger and their daughter, Kennedy, saw a need in the New Glarus Village Park. The family purchased and donated a volleyball net and ball for the sand volleyball court.
Unseasonably warm weather didn’t deter people from enjoying Oktoberfest. New Glarus Chamber Executive Susie Weiss said that the festival went through 173 barrels of beer in the festival tent.

New Glarus High School Homecoming Court included Cullen Brooks, Olivia Xistris, Noah Zimmerman, Walela Three-Sticks, Nickolas Schult, Madelyn Hammer, Wyatt Taylor, Riley Parker, Caitlin Wieser, Julia Barnaby, Jessiah Tetner, Emma Eicher, Matthew Jackson, Gabrielle Whisler, Willow Lee, Jared Carney, Stephanie Koch and Zachary Murray.
The New Glarus Home held a Grand Opening Celebration for The Chalet at Glarner Village on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
On Sunday, October 8, 2017, traditional old-world activities were on display at the New Glarus Swiss Historical Village and Museum’s annual Harvest Fest.
The 6th Annual New Glarus Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show was held in downtown New Glarus on Sunday, October 8th.
A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians-A Renaissance Faire was held on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, at the beautiful, wooded Wilhelm Tell Grounds.
The New Glarus-Monticello Cross Country varsity boys had their best race of the season, placing third at the Platteville Invitational.
On Friday night, October 6th, firefighters from New Glarus, Monticello, Belleville, Monroe, Juda, Mount Horeb and Brooklyn, as well as New Glarus Area EMS and New Glarus Police, responded to a report of a fire in Puempel’s Olde Tavern on 6th Avenue (STH 39) in New Glarus. Puempel’s Olde Tavern owner Chuck Bigler donated the money from the bar’s ceiling to the New Glarus Fire Department in appreciation for their service at Friday night’s fire. The $3,000 donation will go to the NGFD’s building addition fund.
As part of the continuing partnership with Bad Arolsen (Hesse, Germany), a group of 17 adults will be visiting New Glarus from October 14 - 16. Bernd Radeck, who has been the coordinator for the student exchange between New Glarus High School and Christian Rauch Schule for 30 years, is organizing the visit.
New Glarus Utilities, New Glarus’ locally owned, not-for-profit electric, water and wastewater utility, celebrated its 115th anniversary this year.
Larry Daehn, New Glarus, was the recipient of a UW-Platteville 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient on Friday, October 13, 2017. Daehn taught at New Glarus High School for 27 years, directing the band to six national trophies and four Wisconsin Governor’s Commendations.
Swiss Institute and Kunsthaus Glarus presented a village-wide project that took place in New Glarus.
The Municipal Treasurers Association of Wisconsin (MTAW) announced that Pattie Salter, CMTW, WCPC from the Town of New Glarus, completed the necessary requirements to renew the designation of Certified Municipal Treasurer of Wisconsin (CMTW).
