Avalanche Tops Milton

The Monroe Avalanche co-op hockey team hosted Milton on December 21st, winning 3-1.

“It was a close game that ended in a much needed win,” said Coach Josh Smith. “Now we’ll look to ride this momentum into tomorrow night’s game against Monona Grove.”

Monroe was the first team to score when Cade Janecke hit the back of the net in the second period. Milton scored on a power play about 10 minutes later, but Monroe stepped it up with two more goals in the third. The second goal was scored by Hayden Roth, assisted by Connor Nafzger and Payton Stauffacher, and the third was scored by Cade Janecke. Goalie Heath Bear had a total of 23 saves during the game.

The next night, the team headed to face Monona Grove at the Hartmeyer Ice Arena. Monroe lost, 1-8.

Their goal came in the second period, and was scored by Luke Kuberski, assisted by Ryan Molitor. Goalie Heath Bear had 55 saves during the game, 27 of which came in the first period.

The team hosts Chequamegon at SLICE Arena on December 30th, and will travel to play Stoughton at the Mandt Hockey Arena on January 6th. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
