The Green County Family YMCA installed a new filter system in their pool that reduces the need for chlorine. A grand re-opening of the Y’s Aquatic Center will be on Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., along with a Community Open House. The water still contains chlorine, according to a statement from the Y, but it’s about 80% less than it had been. The water is treated through a UV light and is pumped into the pools.

“Our members love not being bothered by the extreme chlorine,” said the Y’s Interim Executive Director Steve Norem. “It’s much easier on swimsuits, skin, and the eyes.”

The Y will launch a capital campaign to pay for this project, Fueling Our Future. This campaign is matched by support from Colony Brands. John Baumann, President of Colony Brands, issued a challenge for the Y to pay off any loans, along with implementing other facility improvements. If the Green County YMCA is able to raise $200,000 by April 30, 2018, Colony Brands will give the Y a $400,000 matching grant.
