The Belleville girls basketball team hosted the Lodi Blue Devils on Tuesday, November 21st, and were handed their first loss of the season by the visiting team. The final score was 54-59.
The Wildcats were in the lead for the most of the first half of the game, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Lodi the 27-25 halftime lead.
The Blue Devils built up a 10-point lead in the second but the Wildcats weren't easily discouraged, and went on a run to take a 44-43 lead. The game continued back and forth until Lodi forced Belleville to foul; the Blue Devils hit their free throws and took the victory.
"We played a pretty solid team tonight in Lodi and we knew we would have to bring a better effort than we did against Albany. The first half we played well at times and were in the lead most of the half. In the second half we struggled a bit to get in a flow and let Lodi get some easy baskets," said Coach Sean Greenleaf. "I was very proud of our girls for the never give up attitude and toughness they showed by battling back and getting the lead and making it a very close game. In the end, Lodi made more plays than we did when they needed them. We cannot continue to miss on given opportunities and still expect to have a positive ending. We have overcome those missed opportunities in the past but tonight we were not able to do so."
Kalin O'Rourke and Rachael Heittola both scored 17 points and Aimee Sies scored 7 to lead the Wildcats.
The team hosted will play Parkview at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 30th, and then on December 5th, they host Columbus at 7:30 p.m.
