VIRGINIA BARTON WILLI ANDERSON

Virginia Barton Willi Anderson

Ginny lived a 94-year long, positive, productive, fun-loving life.  She passed at a Washington retirement home where she had resided for the last three years.  She was born fully Norwegian on the Mount Horeb farm of Harland and Bertha Barton.

After graduating from Mount Horeb High School at the age of 16, she enrolled in a Madison secretarial school and soon met a young Swiss pilot, Ed Willi.

They married and moved to Stevens Point, Badger Ordnance and Columbus, Ohio, to accommodate war needs.  At the conclusion of the WWII, they moved back to Madison, where Ed attended law school and Ginny supported the young family.  They moved to New Glarus and raised a family as Glarners.

Ginny was Ed's legal secretary and also, for years, rounded out the publicity team for the Wilhelm Tell Play.  She and her aunt operated Virsels, a successful women's apparel store in downtown New Glarus from 1954-62.

Ed Willi passed in 1995, and Ginny moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1998, she married the former owner/editor of the New Glarus Post, Jim Anderson.  He passed in 2014 and Ginny moved into a retirement home. Ginny was fully engaged in many joyful activities. Some favorites were: entertaining, dancing, European vacations, cottage life at Devil's Lake, Bridge club, and Dixieland jazz festivals. She found much satisfaction and joy in her social life.
