Swim Team Places Eighth at State Swim Meet

The Monroe/New Glarus swim team sent several swimmers to state competition on Friday, November 10, including seniors Grace Keith and Madelyn Hammer, juniors Nina Schiro and Cammi Ganshert, and freshmen Mekenzie Hammer, Francesca Schiro and alternate Anna Newcomer. Monroe/New Glarus finished in eighth place with 99 points.
The 200 Yard Medley Relay team, consisting of Mekenzie Hammer, Madelyn Hammer, Grace Keith and Cammi Ganshert, was seeded tenth and placed eighth with a PR time of 1:52.92.
Mekenzie Hammer finished fifth in the 200 Yard IM after being seeded sixth. She swam a personal best time of 2:12.88.
Madelyn Hammer finished the 50 Yard Freestyle race in seventh place with a personal best time of 24.46, missing sixth place by just three hundredths of a second. Madelyn also swam in the 100 Yard Freestyle, finishing in ninth place with a time of 53.78.
Mekenzie Hammer won the 100 Yard Backstroke, in a nail biter in which she won by three hundredths of a second with a time of 58.22.
The final race of the night was the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The team, consisting of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Madelyn Hammer, were seeded tenth and finished in eighth place with a PR time of 3:41.68.
“The night was filled with emotions and they never gave up on each other and encouraged each other to fight back one race at a time!” exclaimed Coach Linda Moser. “I am so proud of them!”
