Final Report: 10,000 Years of History Along the Sugar River

October 19, 2017

What did the Sugar River Valley look like 11,000 years ago when the first humans arrived after the end of the last glacial period? Thousands of years later, where did the Woodland Period people build a village near what would become Belleville? What has been learned about the early 19th century homesteaders?

Researchers Paul Reckner and Luther Leith, of the Wisconsin Historical Society, will present their final report from their 2015-16 archaeology study along Highway 69 from Verona to Belleville. They will share their discoveries on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at the Sugar River Senior Center, 21 S. Vine Street, Belleville.

This free event is sponsored by the Belleville Public Library and Sugar River Senior Center. For more information please visit www.bellevillelibrary-wi.org, or call the library at (608) 424-1812.
