Swim Team Victorious in Watertown

The Monroe/New Glarus swim team competed in a dual against Watertown on October 3rd. Both the JV and Varsity teams emerged with wins against the host team. The Varsity score was Monroe/New Glarus 116, Watertown 54, and the JV score was Monroe/New Glarus 72, Watertown 50. With this win, the team is currently 5-1 in the Badger South Conference and 6-1 overall in dual meets.

The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Mekenzie Hammer, Madelyn Hammer, Grace Keith and Cammi Ganshert won the event with a time of 2:00.82. Placing third, with a time of 2:16.28, were teammates Kayleigh Nesbitt, Nina Schiro, Anna Newcomer and Megan Benzschawel.

Francesca Schiro won the 200 Yard Freestyle event, with a time of 2:08.94. Placing third was Grace Keith, with a time of 2:16.99, and teammate Linnea Tabaka placed fifth with a time of 2:31.08.

Monroe/New Glarus swimmers took the top three spots in the 200 Yard IM. Madelyn Hammer won the event with a time of 2:20.16, while Anna Newcomer placed second with a time of 2:38.60 and Cammi Ganshert placed third with a time of 2:42.54.

In the 50 Yard Freestyle event, Mekenzie Hammer placed second with a time of 26.81. Right behind her in third place was Megan Benzschawel, with a time of 28.63. Placing fifth in the event was Emily Meritt, with a time of 29.67.

Grace Keith won the 100 Yard Butterfly event, with a time of 1:07.91. Placing third and fourth were Emily Meritt (1:11.86) and Kayleigh Nesbitt (1:22.04).

Madelyn Hammer won the 100 Yard Freestyle event, finishing with a time of 56.26. Placing third was Cammi Ganshert, with a time of 1:00.49, and Kendra Wenger placed fourth with a time of 1:05.08.

Nina Schiro won the 500 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 5:52.08. Placing third in the event was Linnea Tabaka, with a time of 6:48.11.

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay event was won by the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Megan Benzschawel, Cammi Ganshert and Francesca Schiro, who finished with a time of 1:51.29. Placing third, with a time of 1:58.96, was the team of Kendra Wenger, Kayleigh Nesbitt, Laurel Houston and Emily Meritt.

Nina Schiro won the 100 Yard Backstroke event, in a time of 1:08.24. Placing second was Megan Benzschawel, with a time of 1:12.23. Kayleigh Nesbitt placed third, with a time of 1:20.95.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 100 Yard Breaststroke, with a time of 1:12.98. Teammate Francesca Schiro placed second, with a time of 1:21.63. Placing third was Kendra Wenger, with a time of 1:33.19.

The 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team consisting of Grace Keith, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Madelyn Hammer won the event with a time of 4:07.28. The team of Kendra Wenger, Linnea Tabaka, Anna Newcomer and Emily Meritt placed third in the event, with a time of 4:23.91.

“We are now in our toughest part of the season both physically and mentally,” said Coach Linda Moser. “We have two more dual meets and two more invitationals before we hit the big conference meet on Saturday, October 28th.”

The team hosted McFarland on October 10th and will head to an invitational at Fort Atkinson on Saturday, October 14th.
